Situation
With shifting customer attitudes and significant changes in the business environment, one of the largest natural gas energy utilities in the nation decided it was time for new thinking and reorganizing around customer needs, products, and value delivery. They turned to Kissinger Group to help them evaluate strategy, structure, product offerings, and workforce development in that context.
Approach
Kissinger brought in a consultant with experience outside the utility space to deliver fresh perspective and different ways of doing things. The consultant helped them understand and adopt best and next practices from progressive companies to prepare the organization for the future. Starting with analysis and working through a set of workshops, the output included:
- Current State Assessment
- Presentation of Relevant Leading Practices
- Selection of Potential Operating Models
- Target State Design and Gap Analysis
- Recommendations and Roadmap for a New Operating Model
- Operating Model Design and Implementation.
Results
Insights from this work helped the client’s team see the playing field differently and get a view into how other industries respond to rapid change. The prioritized roadmap provided a specific and practical approach to evolve organizational capabilities and design the right structure to achieve the new vision. After redesigning the business, the client returned to Kissinger to help with the transition and change to the new ways of working.
